Fox decided to release the news at 5 p.m. EST on the Friday before Labor Day weekend. This is what we call classic “bad news” release time for publicists. Nobody is on the Web right now. People are out and about.

Not surprisingly, the press release makes it sound like this was DioGuardi’s choice. Perhaps it was. Perhaps it wasn’t.

But the news of her not making the cut leaked out more than a month ago.

The overly effusive quotes below are amusing in their generic positivity.

She really wasn’t quite as bad as her worst critics would state. She had a reasonably decent point of view as a songwriter and performer. She knows the music business. She could string sentences together in reasonably coherent fashion. But did she sparkle with the …
