Ahead of Wednesday night’s finale (May 23), we’re continuing our look back at American Idol Season 11, this time by revisiting all the moments that gave us “goosies”, that made us cringe or that left us scratching our heads. We’ve seen it all this year: wannabe comedians , historic saves, criminal behavior — ALLEGEDLY! — and, um, bidets. It may not have been the most exciting run (hence the conspiracy theories surrounding Jessica Sanchez ‘s bottom finish that one time), but we’ve been treated to some gifted singers and extravagant guest performances. If that means sitting through countless dramatic pauses and awkward product placements, so be it

Finale Themes Are you wondering what the musical themes will be for next week’s Top 2? Nigel Lythgoe took to Twitter to make the announcement. The first song will be chosen by the contestants themselves as a reprise of their favorite tune they’ve already performed on the show. Another will be chosen by Simon Fuller, the creator of American Idol .

I want answers! We all want answers. How is it that Joshua Ledet, the soulful, emotional, lovable contestant from Louisiana was eliminated just before the finale? Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez are American Idol’s Top Two finalists. After a season-high of nearly 90 million votes, host Ryan Seacrest announced that Joshua Ledet received the fewest number of votes and was eliminated from the competition. “I’m just a normal guy who loves to play music,” said Phillips. “I just happened to get lucky and I’m so blessed by it

Well, at last we have a match-up for next week’s American Idol finale — and it wasn’t quite what we expected. All three of the contestants remaining as of Wednesday night (May 16) delivered shakier-than-usual performances, and even though we viewed Joshua Ledet as the night’s winner, America felt differently. After 90 million (!) votes, Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips were catapulted to the title bout.

No more drama! The American Idol Top 2 are revealed tonight. Who will join Phillip in the finale ? Have we all pretty much resigned ourselves to the fact that he will win? You can just tell by the sound of female screams and panties dropping in the audience, and all the girls pressed up against that chain link fence for a sniff of that grey shirt! This week, the contestants went home , Jimmy Iovine sent them the latest product he’s pimping out, and then he chose the best songs for them.

The music world lost a legend today with the passing of Donna Summer . The Disco Diva inspired many American Idol finalists – including two winners – who performed her songs on the show. Donna was even a guest judge during Season 3′s Top 4 Disco night on American Idol.

We’re in the home stretch! Speaking of home, that’s where the Top 3 remaining contestants are going (or have returned from, if we’re talking real time). They have successfully completed the “Hometown Hero” level of this game, and we’ll watch the results of that interspersed with the judges’ song choices for them tonight.
