Rolling Stone ’s Rob Sheffield, who writes for the publication’s Pop Life blog, gave his picks for the Top 25 Songs of 2011, and there are some real head-scratchers in this bunch: Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep” didn’t even make the Top 10, while Rebecca Black’s “Friday” came in at #9?! And as much as we love Britney Spears’ album cut “How I Roll” — which was honored as the top pick of the year — her official single “Till The World Ends” was still one of the 2011’s best jams. (Personally, when it comes to non-singles from Femme Fatale , our fave was bonus track “He About To Lose Me” .) Check out the full list below. Sheffield’s list varies considerably from Rolling Stone ’s previously posted list of the Top Singles of the year , with Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep” in the top spot. We do have to give him credit for honoring Avril Lavigne’s underrated “What The Hell”, which may not have broken the Top 10 here in the States, but was one of Avril’s catchiest singles in years.

When it came to living vicariously through music videos this year, it seems you all either wanted to go hard on the floor or thank God it’s Friday, Friday, Friday . YouTube has published a few year-end lists, including its Most Viewed YouTube Videos Globally (Excluding Videos From Major Music Labels) and Most Watched Videos From Major Music Labels Globally. And topping those roundups were Rebecca Black’s way-viral “Friday” (with 13,102,627 views) and Jennifer Lopez’s “On The Floor” (a whopping 454,305,629 views), respectively. See the full lists below.

Cranking out new music year after year has its advantages — mainly, it keeps an artist in the public eye. Take, for instance, Rihanna, who has topped a Facebook poll on the most talked-about music artists of 2011. (Guess its no wonder, then, why her latest album is titled Talk That Talk ?) Rihanna landed atop the Facebook ranking based, according to Entertainmentwise , on “her number of ‘likes’, how fast her profile is going, and her prominence in the media”. For the record, RiRi currently stands at 47.7 million Facebook likes.

Katy Perry is bringing her sass and charm (and possibly a range of accents ) to Saturday Night Live this weekend. We’re curious to see how well Katy does her first time as host , as well as how many times the writers will make use of her cleavage in a sketch . To celebrate her hosting gig, we looked back at the last few decades to see previous pop stars’ attempts at making people laugh on the late-night show. Jump below for our all-time favorite SNL guest spots from Britney, Christina, Gaga, Madonna and more

Not only is Adele’s music from the past year topping critical lists — she came in at #1 on Rolling Stone ’s Best Albums and Singles of 2011 features — the Brit singer is triumphing on chart lists, too. Adele’s 21 was the top-selling album on iTunes in the last year, and “Rolling In The Deep” was the top-selling single on the digital retailer. The Grammy-nominated chanteuse was also named iTunes’ Artist Of The Year.

Since January, our ears have been privy to the latest LPs from several big-name pop stars, promising debuts from up-and-coming artists and noteworthy releases from overseas. Of course, there was also one juggernaut from a power-house Brit vocalist that shattered all expectations. Naturally, over the months, many of these have sound-tracked the daily duties we here at the Idolator office go about each and every week.

Lady Gaga’s holiday-themed Gaga’s Workshop opened today at Barney’s New York, and the store is a little monster’s fantasyland of Gagafied goodies, from candy to candles to leather jackets and beyond. Of course, we put an emphasis on “fantasy”, because they’ve got to be dreaming if they think any normal person can afford (or would even want) most of the bonkers items for sale. It was a difficult task, but we’ve rounded up the Top 10 most ridiculous products at the Workshop, with the list of items ascending in price (and overall ridiculousness). #10.

Once upon a time you needed a record deal and (at least some degree of) talent to release a pop song. But those days are long gone. In 2011, all you need is a computer and a dream — and preferably a role on a reality TV show or a famous parent! Cowering in the darkest shadows of iTunes lies a growing army of heavily-Auto-Tuned divas and bored celebrities hoping to follow in the hallowed footsteps of Heidi Montag.

Michael Jackson was not immortal, no matter what Cirque Du Soleil might have you believe . His music, on the other hand, will last forever, and the art of pop is already far better for the influence that Jackson wielded during an historic 40-year career. With an airing of This Is It this week, VH1 decided to rank Jackson’s 40 greatest songs, starting with the blaring “Torture” (off the Jacksons’ 1984 Victory album) at #40. Beat it below to see which MJ song came out on top.
