I went to see one of my favorite bands from the '80s the other night. A-ha, who broke big in 1985 thanks to a groundbreaking (for the time) video that MTV played on heavy rotation, took America by storm on the back of one synthesizer melody. I loved “Take On Me” just as much as any Euro-pop obsessed 13-year-old, but I didn’t abandon the Norwegian trio after their debut album, “Hunting High and Low.” I actually preferred their follow-up, the moody, ambitious and lesser-known “Scoundrel Days,” which sold a fraction of the copies but had a certain realness to it; like they were trying to talk directly to their fans from beyond the sea — no matter what the listener’s native tongue — with the language of melody.

Michael Lynche was invited to swing by the Late Show With David Letterman last night. The latest American Idol castoff pretended to get ruffled by bandleader Paul Shaffer’s introduction of him, though. “I take a little issue with saying ‘being voted off,’ because people don’t vote for you to leave—you just don’t get enough votes to stay,” Lynche said. Hmmm

Michael Lynche dropped by the Late Show With David Letterman today (Aw, look! His wife and baby were with him!) to chat a bit with Dave and sing a song. After chatting a bit about Mike’s Astoria roots and his childhood, Dave asked the big guy what was next. “The producers told me the Late Show is looking for a new host…” said Mike. What? Dave quipped, “Are you ready to start now?” Michael closed out his segment with a performance of “Woman’s Work” with Paul and the band.
Sorry this is so late guys! Super busy weekend! Let’s get down to it, shall we? To download from iTunes click HERE . Or click the links below: Lee DeWyze – “Kiss From A Rose” – Another great recording from Lee. Based on his pre-Idol and iTunes recordings, I’m really looking forward to his post-Idol record. I hope he gets signed regardless of where he ends up – Audio – Video – You Tube Michael Lynche – “Will You Be There” – Michael is gone, but one thing he had going for him was his consistently.
He stood out from the get-go, what with those ginormous guns, the tear-jerking delivery room back story and, oh yeah, that sultry, smooth voice, which Ellen DeGeneres compared to Luther Vandross no more than two weeks ago! But alas, it's down to the “Idol” wire and someone has to go. So what will Michael Lynche miss about his extended stay in Los Angeles once he returns home to Astoria in Queens, N.Y.? Besides sun, sun and more sun, he's certain to have long-lasting memories of afternoons spent at the Grove's Apple store, and In-N-Out's classic double-double animal-style.
Another former front-runner saw his “American Idol” dream cut short this week. Michael Lynche, who was long considered a contender for the crown, made it as far as fourth place on Season 9, and that was after a judges' save in Week 7. Yet, he's also often cited as having the strongest male voice of this year's competition, so what happened?

Filed under: Interviews His goal had been to make the Top 3, and sadly, Michael Lynche just missed it, being voted off after this week’s Movie Songs-themed performance night. In the weekly post-’Idol’ elimination press conference, Lynche (whose baby daughter Laila Rose could be heard cooing in the background) talked about being one of the season’s most consistent performers, about missing the birth of his daughter during season nine’s Hollywood Week, about what he has in common with Chris Daughtry and about how losing his mom led him to a music career. What was your mindset going into Wednesday night? Did you expect to go home?

Michael Lynche was given the boot on American Idol last night—a fact which should have surprised no one at this point. What was shocking was that Casey James was declared safe while fan favorite Crystal Bowersox landed in the Bottom Two with Big Mike. (Don’t get lazy with the dialing, MamaSox fans!) “You know, it’s been unbelievable, man,” Lynche told host Ryan Seacrest about his Idol journey.
