A confession: Tim Urban charmed me. Some, like L.A. Times music critic Ann Powers, might call it pointed manipulation, but I've met the kid and there's not a deceitful bone in his happy-go-lucky body. To the contrary, Tim is a gentleman.

Call him what you will — Teflon Tim, the Comeback Kid, Turban, Big Head Tim (we just made that one up!) — but having extended his “Idol” stay far longer than anyone would have imagined, Tim Urban will go down as one of the most resilient contestants the show's ever seen. So what did the Duncanville, Texas, native do with all that extra time in L.A.? Not too much sightseeing around our neighborhoods, apparently, but he's on intimate terms with the Grove.

With Tim Urban's ouster on Wednesday night, the anti-”Idol” authority VotefortheWorst.com is now throwing its weight behind Siobhan Magnus, citing her “crazy outfits, hilarious screaming” and a few more perceived offenses. Do we agree with the website's verdict? Absolutely not.

My favorite contestants, among them Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, were always female, and they almost always went on to win the whole kit and kaboodle. (Yes, I even preferred Jordin Sparks to Melinda Doolittle and Lakisha Jones.) And then season 7 happened.
